MANANGING MONEY

CUTTING COSTS

Many times we spend money on things that are not necessary and some times we cant even give account on what we spend money on. here are the tips that will help you cut down unnecessary cost.

make a list of what you spend money on most often .eg recharge card, transportation, food drinks snack etc.

Use public transportation If you have an option that enables you to ride to regular destinations (such as work, the store, or a shopping center) instead of using your automobile, you can save quite a bit of money by just using public transport.

Unplug all unused electrical devices Are there any electrical devices around the house that stay plugged in, but that you rarely use? Most electric devices use a small amount of electricity constantly. To eliminate that usage, unplug the items. especially when you are using prepaid meter

Cook (and pack) your own meals at home

When you cook at home, make plenty so that you can freeze some of it for future meals and, even better, take some of it as leftovers to work, drastically reducing the cost of the typical workplace lunch. Some people may shy away from leftovers, but there are some secrets to making any leftovers as good as the original.

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has officially presided over the establishment of a new financial institution aimed at providing financial life-line to Nigerian entrepreneurs. Besides empowering Nigeria’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with long tern loans characterized by generous moratorium, the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) is expected to provide MSMEs with training, easy access to loan facilities and increased access to markets. President Jonathan, while performing the official launching at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday, said the initiative was part of his administration’s move to expand the public-private sector partnership with a view to opening up the nation’s business horizon to serious competitiveness. To institutionalise international best practices, the new DBN has share capitals from well known international development financial institutions such as the World Bank (WB), African Development Bank (AfDB), the Development Bank of Germany and the Development Bank of France. The establishment of the DBN, according to the Coordinating Minister of the Economy/Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was a joint effort of the Federal Government and some international financial institutions aimed at addressing the acute under funding of the MSMEs, which is a component of the nation’s economy. Indeed, statistics from the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria (SMEDAN), the Federal Government agency responsible for coordinating the small scale business activities in Nigeria, indicate that there are 17 million MSMEs in Nigeria employing about 32 million people, while contributing over 45 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Jonathan used the opportunity to formally present a booklet tagged “Jonathan’s Next Four Years: My Vision for a Nigeria that works for All”. The document, a product of his campaign organization, highlighted what would be the focus of his administration in the next four years, if re-elected into office on March 28. An excerpt from the document reads: “The future I see and work for is for a Nigeria that works for all. I see a Nigeria where mothers and children do not die due to lack of medical attention, a Nigeria where no child goes to bed hungry or is out of school because of family circumstances. In the future of Nigeria that I see, the young and the youth will receive quality and sound education that provides them access to job opportunities and a higher living standards, a Nigeria where the elderly have access to medical care they require and life expectancy is significantly higher than it is today.” to the President, the launch of the DBN represented a defining milestone in his administration’s efforts to empower more micro, small and medium enterprises across Nigeria.

POWER PROVISION THE KEY TO SME GROWTH

Provision of power key to SMEs’ growth, says Jonathan

Provision of power.
Provision of power.

President  Goodluck Jonathan has commissioned the phase 1 segment of the 1074MW Alaoji combined cycle power station in Abia State, with a firm promise to transform Nigeria and move the country forward. Government is optimistic that the plant would restore the East as an industrial hub in the country. “Power is key to development. Without power, small and medium enterprises cannot do well. That is the focus of this administration,” he said. He stressed how the Development Bank being established by government would enhance businesses in the country. His words: “Only yesterday, through the Finance Ministry, we were talking about setting up the Development Bank. The idea is to have a bank that would support businesses. For small businesses to survive, they need power. If they generate their own power, their return would be minimal and their turn over would be too low. That is why we are totally committed and we promise you that the second phase of this project would be completed. He spoke on the background to the project: “For me, it is a moment that one will always remember. As Vice President, I had reports about this project from the National Assembly. Government was to just abandon the project because the information we got was quite disturbing. I decided to go and physically inspect it instead of government just abandoning it. I came here and saw something different from the report we got and decided to continue with the project.” He promised the emergence of a new Nigeria, noting: “We will work together to transform this country. We will work together to move this country forward.” The phase, which is of 504MW capacity, is a simple cycle gas turbine power plant, and is the fourth of the ten power plants being constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). The second phase that would bring the total to 1074MW is expected to be completed in no distant time. Power generated from the plant is to be wheeled via Alaoji-Owerri-Onitsha and the on-going Alaoji-Ikot Ekpene 330kv double circuit lines to the rest of the national grid. Gas is being delivered from Accugas Uquo Field and Shell through the Nigeria Gas Company’s Eastern pipeline network. Managing Director of NDPHC, James Olotu, noted that all the four gas turbine units and the balance of plant equipment necessary for the simple cycle gas turbine phase were now completed in full with a total capacity of 504MW. He said: “Construction work on the combined cycle phase is continuing and by the time it is completed it will bring the entire Alaoji Combined Cycle Power station capacity to 1,074MW, the largest among the ten NIPP power stations.” He refuted allegations that Olorunsogo plant, which was commissioned by the President recently had previously being commissioned by a past administration. Olotu said: “Just three days after Olorunsogo was commissioned, it came in the newspapers that the power plant that Mr. President commissioned was actually a lie, that it was not a power plant, that it was commissioned years earlier. While we acknowledge the fact that all Presidents do their work, we will continue to add value to Nigeria.President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did not commission what had been commissioned before. He commissioned a brand new 750MW combined circle power plant, out there at Olorunsogo. No doubt about that.” Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, said sixwere ready for commissioning. Nebo ingathe nation’s installed capacity at 5500 MWS, while stressing that about 300 projects embarked upon by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) were now ready for commissioning. “It is on record that this is the very fourth plant that the President is commissioning within a very short time. This is an unbroken record and a record that cannot be broken. “We also know that there are six more waiting for you to commission. We know that moving at the pace that you are, moving, before the end of this year, you would have commissioned 6 other power plants. We congratulate you. “In the South East, we have the Alaoji Power Plant. It is going to ginger up industrial revolution, manufacturing, small and medium enterprises, and all of them to strive. Jobs would be created. Wealth would be created. Overall well being would be guaranteed. Education would strive, because development follows electricity. Having inherited 2800-3000MW, today Nigeria has the combined ability, not just installed capacity of 5500MW of electricity. “Nigeria is diversifying. Coal is coming on stream. More hydro power plants are coming on board. This is no longer a dream. As I speak, 300 projects completed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) are ready for commissioning.

The Federal Government has unlocked a N1billion special credit line, through the National Enterprise Development Programme, for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives in Lagos State. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, said the direct micro-enterprise funding further demonstrated the commitment of the current administration to developing enterprises at the grass roots in order to create jobs, enhance growth and ultimately reduce poverty. He said NEDEP provided the necessary platform for the sustainable ongoing funding of micro enterprises, adding that the disbursement of the N1bn loan to MSMEs in Lagos was part of the ongoing MSME funding across the 36 states of the federation and would be in phases. Aganga spoke in Lagos on Thursday while awarding cheques to the beneficiaries of the first N100m special credit line. NEDEP is an initiative spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and its three parastatals – the Bank of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria and the Industrial Training Fund. Aganga said the ministry, through SMEDAN had established approximately 3,800 cooperatives in Lagos State, noting that about 2,000 of these cooperatives would benefit from the special credit facility. Beneficiaries are drawn from all the local governments in the state and cut across various activities, including manufacturing, agribusiness, retail trade and electrical works among others. The loans are given at single digit interest rates to the beneficiaries who also receive some form of training and skills development. He said the National Council on MSME was working extensively with the CBN to ensure that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund reached the intended beneficiaries in all the states of the federation. The ministry is also working with micro finance banks and commercial banks to increase overall access to the fund. In the previous week, the Federal Government launched the first Nigerian Business Development Services Network for effective and productive performance of MSMEs in Nigeria. The N39.6 billion ($200 million) project, called the Nigerian Business Development Services Network, is a network of private sector business development service providers that will work with MSMEs across the country to mentor them, provide support services and link them up with financial institutions. Speaking during the launch of the NBDS and the unveiling of the National Business Development Services Market Place in Abuja, Aganga said that the new initiative marked another milestone in the current administration’s determination to reposition the MSME sector as the major driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. He said: “Today marks another milestone in the development of the MSME sector in the country. Over the course of this administration, we have championed the course of MSMEs and we have made them the centre of economic policy; we have treated them as a distinct sector and we have developed policies and programmes to enable them grow and contribute significantly to GDP growth.“Today, we are launching the Nigerian Business Development Services Network, a network of private sector business development service providers that will work with MSMEs across the country to mentor them, provide support services and enable linkages with financial institutions.” Aganga noted that in the latest survey on MSMEs, it emerged that access to funding was the biggest challenge for MSMEs in the country, pointing out that approximately 84.6 per cent of small businesses in Nigeria had to resort to personal savings and borrowing from friends and families. This, he said, was changing due to specific reforms by the current administration to address the anomaly.

FG IS PARTNERING WITH BANKS ON A NEW MECHANISM TO FUNDING MSMES

The Federal Government is partnering commercial banks across the country to fashion out a new funding mechanism that will give SMEs increased access to cheap funds. The Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, disclosed this during a meeting with SME Desk Managers of Banks in Abuja.
In attendance at the meeting were the Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) , and representatives of commercial banks. Aganga noted  that the new initiative was  aimed at removing barriers  militating against  banks’ lending to MSMEs  as part of  renewed efforts  to increase their capacity to create jobs, generate wealth and transform the country’s economy.
He said, “The rate of unemployment in Nigeria is becoming alarming and staring us in the face. There is no gainsaying the fact that the best way to checkmate the situation is to have a virile Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sub-sector. The recent survey conducted by SMEDAN, in conjunction with the National Bureau of Statistics, revealed that we have close to 20 million MSMEs  in Nigeria.
“The figure represents over 80 per cent of the total number of enterprises in the country and accounts for 75 per cent of Nigeria’s total employment base. If we don’t create an enabling environment for this important sub-sector to thrive, we will all suffer its negative consequences.”
He added, “The MSME community has been complaining bitterly of not being able to access cheap funds from the banks. They have also said that where services are available, it takes  the banks ‘forever’ to process  them. The vision of the Ministry of Trade and Investment is to increase the contribution of SMEs to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product from 10 per cent to 30 per cent and increase export earnings through SMEs from three per cent to 25 per cent within the lifetime of this administration. “To be able to achieve this, we have identified commercial banks and development finance institutions and are partnering them to come up with SME-friendly products or re-design existing products to enhance access to finance by SMEs.  We want to partner the banks to remove the barriers inhibiting them from lending to SMEs at a reduced interest rate.” Aganga said that SMEDAN was currently carrying out an SME Rating Project to minimise the risks associated with SMEs  by training and re-training them to become more competitive and attractive  for funding by commercial banks.
He noted, “I am aware that banks’ problems with SME operators border on perception of SMEs as high risk largely due to their informal nature; inability to prepare bankable business plans ; poor record keeping and discriminatory cultural practices, among other things. SMEDAN is championing the SME Rating project which will minimise the risks usually associated with the sub-sector.
“Though SMEs are known to be high risk areas, they also hold the key to sustainable banking if properly understood and funded. We are prepared to take up the challenge of training and re-training MSMEs to ensure that they become more competitive and attractive to funding. To this end, SMEDAN is being refocused to constantly monitor and provide business development support services to MSMEs to ensure that they conform with conditions attached to loans.

11 Encouraging Bible Verses For Bloggers

Writen by: Unveiled Wife

Does The Bible Talk About Blogging?

I am confident that the verses I share in this article are critical for Christian bloggers to know, meditate on, and pray about as they aim to pour their hearts out through the blogging process.
Whether you love to write, video blog, podcast, or share graphics, I believe these verses are essential to establishing a faithful and righteous blogging presence online. May they also serve to encourage you on this sometimes seemingly isolating journey!
1. Blogging Is The Gift Of Encouragement.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. – Hebrews 3:13
As a blogger you have the opportunity to encourage others. This is an incredible gift! So as long as it is called “Today” that you have a platform, use it to edify one another so that those who read your words are encouraged to not fall into sin’s deceitfulness. I personally do this by sharing articles about the way sin has affected my life, in hopes of readers being inspired to evaluate their own lives to see if they struggle with that sin. With each day that you experience traffic to your site, that is a gift, and opportunity to encourage and build up others!
2. My Attitude Can Get In The Way.
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control. – Proverbs 29:11
So often bloggers use their platform to vent. There is nothing wrong with sharing your opinions, even if there is an issue that arises anger or frustration in you. However, it is vital that you keep yourself under control to be cautious of how your articles unfold. Be patient, pray, and ask God to guide you through your emotions and ask Him what He wants you to say about the issue. Do not publish anything just because of how you feel, rather evaluate your attitude when writing and act in bridled self-control.
3. Who Or What Is My Blog Glorifying?
Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. – Psalm 96: 2-3
Be sure to include how the Lord is working in your life. Give Him the glory by sharing revelations, teachings, or inspirations you have received from Him to spur one another on in love. Remember your blog is most likely being seen by many nations and you have the unique opportunity to share about God with those people with every article of yours they read. May your blog glorify God!
4. I Just Need A Little More Coffee…I Mean Strength!
On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased. – Psalm 138:3
Do not try and do this on your own. Invite God to lead you every step of the way and you will be amazed at the strength He will give you to endure late nights so you can hit publish, or reply to the challenging commenters, or pray for the one on the other end reading your words. If you try to rely on your own abilities, coffee, or any other measure to help you through blogging, you will feel disheartened and discouraged. Call upon God and He will answer you.
5. Get Wisdom!
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving,considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. – James 3:13-18
This is a verse every blogger must be aware of! Do not have blogger envy over who has a bigger audience. Do not post articles for the mere benefit of selfish gain, whether that be followers or revenue or fame. Do not harbor bitterness for another blogger based on their numbers, or their book deal, or their appearance on a well-known show. In everything you do through your blog use wisdom, heavenly wisdom, pure wisdom. Be excited for your fellow bloggers and cheer them on, while continuing to fulfill your unique purpose.
6. Perseverance For Me And For Them.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9
Blogging is a resource with the potential to do extremely good in this world, as well as lead people to eternal salvation. I have seen this happen over and over and over again. Readers find hope, peace, perseverance and so much more through the stories and encouragement of bloggers. You have influence with your readers and the potential to help them in their current circumstances, so I urge you… Do not give up!
7. What Is My Purpose In Blogging?
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. – Colossians 2:2-3
If your purpose for blogging remains focused on this verse, you will be doing an incredible thing. So many people search for purpose, and for every Christian it is laid out clear right here in this verse. So when you blog, remember your purpose to encourage, unite, and share your understanding of Christ so that others may gain wisdom, be drawn closer to God, and get to know Him more intimately. Let your articles reflect tHIS purpose!
8. Submit And Succeed.
Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. – Proverbs 16:3
In every word, campaign, book, product, status update…in everything…commit your work to the Lord! Pray and remain humble. Ask God to lead you to what you should be sharing and how you should be saying it. Submit to God and He will establish your plans!
9. In Whom Shall I Fear?
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalm 27:1
Do not be afraid to publish the article you feel God urging you to share. Do not be terrified of being labeled or judged. Do not fear receiving horrible comments. Because chances are, you will be labeled or you will read nasty comments because the world will be reading your words and not all will be able to understand the truth you are sharing. They will want to persecute you regardless of your words, but rather because of your faith! Please do not let fear keep you from sharing God’s truth…you will never know the extent of the positive impact you are making through your obedience to the only ONE you should be fearing…God!
10. Does God Trust Me With My Blog?
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ – Matthew 25:21
I believe anyone with a blog has been entrusted with a very valuable treasure. Imagine God has gifted you your blog. Can He also trust you to take care of it and to do with it what He hoped you would do? This gift God has given you is an eternal investment as you have the opportunity to draw others into the kingdom through all that you share. With this gift you have been given a great responsibility, to be faithful to serve God and serve your community of readers by providing quality content.
11. Is What I Share Honorable?
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
When you write or share anything online you must think about the gravity of what you are exposing for others to see. Is what you share true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, praise worthy? It all should be! You are a reflection of God’s love and an ambassador of His gospel. May you be a vessel to share His love and light with this dark world.
As I set out to share these verses it was amazing for me to discover how much of God’s Word does pertain to something as specific as blogging; it is all about perspective and how we can apply His Word to the things we do.

I Hope And Pray These Verses Help Guide You As You Pursue The Gift That Is Blogging!

If you have any other verses to share and how they could encourage a fellow blogger please leave a comment below.
